What is a zine?

A zine (from English: magazine) is a small, independent publication created and published by an author or group of authors, driven more by ideological and artistic motives than by commercial ones. Traditionally, a zine was characterized by an unconventional approach to graphic design, layout, and language – often used contrary to accepted principles and conventions, to facilitate reaching a specific audience, such as anarchists, fans of ska, comics, or science fiction.
